Frequently asked questions.
- Is the self-hosted version really free?
- No catch. The Kaiten engine is open source. You get the full Control Plane, Console, and API. You manage the infrastructure (Postgres, a Go binary, and optionally the event pipeline). Kaiten Cloud exists for teams who want us to handle the ops.
- Can I start self-hosted and migrate to Cloud later?
- Yes. Kaiten's data model is the same across self-hosted and Cloud. We provide migration tooling to move your configuration without downtime.
- What happens if I exceed my Cloud tier limits?
- We don't cut you off. We'll notify you and work with you to upgrade your plan. No surprise bills, no service interruption.
- Do you offer discounts for startups?
- Yes. If you're a startup (under $5M ARR), reach out — we have a startup program with significant discounts on Cloud plans.
- Is Kaiten SOC 2 compliant?
- SOC 2 Type II certification is on our roadmap. The self-hosted version gives you full control over compliance — you audit the code, you manage the data.
- What's the difference between Cloud and Standalone?
- Kaiten Cloud is our managed SaaS. Kaiten Standalone (self-hosted) is the same engine deployed on your infrastructure. Same code. Same features. Different operational model.
